Welcome to Rooted in Resource! šŸ’›

Hi, I'm Whitney, and I'm so glad you're here!

If you've been following Rooted in Resource for a while, you may know me as a special education teacher, author, resource creator, or the person behind all those teacher shirts. But Rooted in Resource has always been about so much more than the things I create.

Rooted in Resource started from my love of teaching and my belief that every student deserves to feel understood, included, and supported. But it also grew from my deep appreciation for teachers and wanting to create a community.

Teachers give so much of themselves every single day. They show up when they're tired, celebrate the little wins, advocate for their students, adapt when things don't go as planned, and find ways to reach kids who may not always feel understood. Teaching is hard, meaningful, exhausting, and rewarding work, and I have so much respect for the people who choose to do it.

I spent 13.5 years in the classroom, beginning my career as a paraprofessional before becoming a special education teacher. Those years gave me the opportunity to see education from different perspectives and taught me just how much teachers pour into their students and their classrooms.

Rooted in Resource was created to support those teachers. My goal is to create practical resources, ideas, and encouragement that help teachers feel a little less overwhelmed and a little more confident in supporting their students.

So, what can you expect from the blog?

I'll be sharing things like:

- Practical ideas for supporting students
- Special education and inclusion resources
- Social skills and social-emotional learning
- Classroom tips and strategies
- Ideas and activities you can use with your students
- Teacher life and lessons I've learned along the way
- Behind the scenes of my children's books and author journey
- And maybe a little bit of real life, too

One of my favorite things about education is that no two students are exactly alike. They don't all learn the same way, communicate the same way, or need the same things from us.

That's a big part of why I wrote my children's book, Everyone Learns Differently, and why inclusion is such an important part of what I share.

And while I may no longer spend my days in a classroom, my heart is still very much with teachers and students.

This blog is a place for me to continue sharing what I've learned, what I'm creating, and the things I hope will make your day just a little easier.
